BIG BOY Guides

The following guides were designed for the OREA BIG BOY 2-5 cup brewer. This device was designed specifically for larger sized brews and does not perform optimally for "one cup / small brews".

IMPORTANT NOTE
Every coffee is a little different. Coffee density, solubility, and grind profile will impact how quickly water can flow through it, which will also impact your brew times. Use these guides as a starting point - but always adjust to taste. Don’t be afraid to grind coarser if a coffee is taking a bit long or finer to reach the flavour profile you enjoy even if it takes longer.

These recipes use the Big Boy Wave filters. As this brewer has a very wide bed (8cm / 3.15 inch) we recommend that you use pours big in volume and specifically over 150ml per pour (excluding the bloom stage). Our ideal pour volume is over 200ml per pour. Our recipes are designed with this in mind, taking advantage of the brewer volume and adapting pouring structure for desired volume.
THE BASE (FOR 2)
COFFEE: 40g Ground MEDIUM (22-26 clicks Comandante (660 - 780 µm)
WATER TEMP: 92-96°C (198-205°F)

00:00 - Bloom with 100g water (pour quickly and swirl gently after)
00:45 - Pour to 350g, in a controlled circular pour
02:00 - Pour to 600g, in a controlled circular pour

TBT 3 TO 4 MINUTES - ENJOY!
THE LITRE (FOR 3-4)
COFFEE: 60g MEDIUM-COARSE (25-28 clicks Comandante (750 - 840 µm)
WATER TEMP: 92-96°C (198-205°F)

00:00 - Bloom with 160g water (pour quickly and swirl gently after)
01:00 - Pour to 440g, in a controlled circular pour
02:15 - Pour to 720g, in a controlled circular pour
03:15 - Pour to 1000g, in a controlled circular pour

THE PULSE (FOR 5)
COFFEE: 70g Ground coarse (28-32 clicks Comandante (840 - 960 µm)
WATER TEMP: 92-96°C (198-205°F)

00:00 - Bloom with 160g water (pour quickly and swirl gently after)
01:00 - Pour to 410g, in a controlled circular pour
02:15 - Pour to 660g, in a controlled circular pour
03:00 - Pour to 910g, in a controlled circular pour
04:00 - Pour to 1160g, in a controlled circular pour
